Andrew McMahon: Post #1

Andrew McMahon

Ms. B - January 17

Andrew McMahon is a singer/songwriter who has been on the punk, pop, and indie scenes since 2000. A pianist and composer with a very unique voice, Andrew was the frontman and primary songwriter for the punk band Something Corporate and pop band Jack's Mannequin before going solo under the moniker Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness.

Born in 1982, Andrew says he began writing songs on piano at the age of 9 while growing up in California. In 1997, at the age of 15, he and some of his high school friends formed the band Something Corporate and were signed to an indie record label just three years later. Something Corporate was active until they released their final album in 2003, when Andrew began writing songs he felt were "too poppy" for the punk group. He began Jack's Mannequin as an independent project, but before long the songs had a huge following.  Andrew fronted and wrote for the band over the span of 8 years and three major albums.

In 2012, Andrew announced that Jack's Mannequin was coming to an end, and that after a brief hiatus from writing for himself, he would begin an independent project in order to help him re-connect with his mental health, his wife, and his love of music. He released his debut solo album, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, in 2014, and is still writing under that name today.

Andrew's music is known for its moving poetic lyrics, deep personal emotions, singability, and prominent featuring of piano. His most famous song is arguably "Dark Blue," a song he wrote and performed with Jack's Mannequin, that was played on an episode of One Tree Hill in 2006.
