John
Mayer #5
The first time I ever heard
John Mayer I was with my sister. I’m not exactly sure where or when it was but
I just know she loves him and was the first person to show me his music. I
believe the first songs I heard were Free Falling and Daughters. I was
immediately attracted to the song Free Falling not only because of the lyrics
but the laid back tone and feel it gave off. Mayer remade this song from the
original version made by Tom Petty but did it so well that most people my age
would recognize it as a John Mayer song and not a Petty song. I also remember
hearing Daughters as one of the first ones I have heard. This isn't my favorite
song but it is definitely a good one. Free Falling doesn't perfectly represent
Mayer as a person considering he himself didn’t write this, it is nearly a
remake of someone else’s although it is very possible Mayer feels many of the
same emotions Petty felt wen he wrote this song. Over all Mayer’s songs do a
good job portraying him as an individual. Mayer’s lyrics tend to very personal.
They are often about his view on situations, relationships, and love. He seems
as though e has a deep understanding of himself. I think I am attracted to his
tone and lyrics combined with his guitar. My favorite song of his are the personal
ones that tell a story and are preformed acoustically.
