Blink-182
By: Megan McKay
Blink-182 is a band that started in
1993. They play alternative, rock, and punk rock. Blink-182 was not the
original band name; it was named Blink, however an Irish band with the same
name sued them. They were then forced to change the nameto Blink-182, the -182
representing the amount of times the “F” word is used in the movie “Scarface.”
The band consists of Tom DeLonge (guitar, vocals), Mark
Hoppus(bass, vocals), and Travis Barker(drums), however Travis
Barker was not the original drummer from 1993-1998 Scott Rayner played the
drums. They had to kick him out because of his excessive drug use. Tom DeLonge
is also apart of two other bands, Angels & Airwaves and Box Car Racer.
Travis Barker has been apart of seven bands including, The Aquabats,
Transplants, Box Car Racer, +44, Expensive Taste, and Soul Assassins. Mark
Hoppus is also apart of two other bands besides Blink-182, +44 and Nothing and
Nobody.
The members write the band’s songs,
however, each has his own writing style, which makes for the verses that have
different styles. The band pulls inspiration from The Ramones and Jimmy Eat
World. Total the band has eight albums, twenty awards, and six nominations.
