The Red Hot Chili Peppers
were formed in Los Angeles in 1983. They are an American funk rock band more
commonly known as “The Chili Peppers.” They consist mainly of rock with accents
of funk, as well as elements from punk rock and psychedelic rock. When played
live, their music incorporates many aspects of jam band due to the improvised
nature of much of their performances.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers have been associated with
heavy drug use and vulgarity, however they are one of the most famous bands of the twentieth century as well as the twenty-first century.
Their most famous albums are Blood,
Sugar, Sex, Magik, Californication, and
The Uplift Mofo Part Plan.
As of now, the band includes Anthony Kiedis who is the main
singer, Flea who is the bass player, Chad Smith, the drummer, and guitarist
Josh Klinghoffer, who joined in late 2009. The band’s original line-up featured
guitarist Hillel Slovak and drummer Jack Irons, alongside Kiedis and Flea.
Also, they took on guitarist Arik Marshall for one of their world tours for Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik. Kiedis, Flea,
and Smith also hired Jesse Tobias but after a few weeks, Dave Navarro from the
band Jane’s Addiction replaced him.
The
Red Hot Chili Peppers have won seven Grammy Awards, and have become one of the
best-selling bands of all time, selling over 80 million records worldwide. In
2012, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
