COLDPLAY

Coldplay is a British alternative rock band with four members. The first, and most famous, is Chris Martin. He is one of the founders and lead vocalist of the group. The other founder is Jonny Buckland, the lead guitarist. There is also Guy Berryman, the bassist, and Will Champion, the drummer. The band began in 1996 when they all met at University College London. All four boys had different ideas for a career other than music: Chris was studying Art History, Jon enjoyed Math and Astronomy, Guy was trying to become an engineer, and Will was an Anthropologist. However, it did not take long for these four men to find each other. Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland actually met at orientation, and they decided to create a band at that moment. From there they slowly brought in new players. Although not technically part of the band, Phil Harvey, Coldplay's manager and Chris Martin's good friend, was like a fifth member.  The boys finally had created the name Coldplay in 1998.

Shortly after they all graduated from college in 1999, they were signed to the record label Parlophone Records. Their first big hit was the song "Yellow". The track had made it to number four on the charts. Within the same year, their album Parachutes became number one on the charts. Coldplay's fame only grew after this. In the early 2000's, Coldplay was selling more albums, receiving even more awards, and playing at more performances. Their next two albums, A Rush of Blood to the Head and X&Y, had also become very popular. Throughout their career so far, Coldplay has won eight Brit Awards, five MTV Music Video Awards, and Seven Grammys. After almost twenty years, Coldplay is still going strong and creating relatable lyrics and classic music.
