Twelve Interesting Facts about the Red Hot Chili Peppers

1.      The whole band made a showing in an episode of The Simpsons. They played “Give it Away” in their underwear as cartoons.
2.      Lead singer Anthony Kiedis joked that the reason they covered Stevie Wonder's 'Superstition' was because it was between this song, and covering New Kids On The Block's ‘Hanging Tough’.
3.      In 2001, Flea founded the nonprofit Silverlake Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, which offers music lessons and instruments to children in need.
4.      Flea is an avid runner, and completed the LA Marathon this March to raise money for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music. He was featured in Runner’s World when he prepared for the race.
5.      Anthony Kiedis is a strict vegan, and has been since 2008. He also regularly practices Vipassana meditation and is a follower of Kabbalah.
6.      Flea grew up with an alcoholic stepfather who eventually became involved in shoot-outs with police.
7.      Chad Smith contributes to a slew of charities, including Surfer’s Healing, MusiCares and the Children’s Hospitals in the States.
8.      The drummer, Chad Smith is from Michigan and attended Andover High School.
9.      Flea has recently been studying music theory, composition and jazz trumpet at the University of Southern California.
10.  Drummer Chad Smith has got behind the kit for a variety of other musicians, from Glenn Hughes to John Fogerty, Dixie Chicks, Paul Oakenfold, Kid Rock and George Clinton.
11.  Anthony Kiedis wrote 'Venice Queen' about Gloria Scott, a drug councilor who died of cancer.
12.  While many people believe their song ‘Tearkjerker’ was written about a girl, it was really inspired by Kurt Cobain.

I chose the song “Venice Queen” because it directly relates to fact #11.
