12 Things You Didn't Know About Joan Jett


1.  Her teacher once threw her out of her voice lessons. The teacher was an opera singer who didn't like the way Joan was dressed.

2. Joan starred in the movie The Light of Day with Michael J. Fox

3. Ranked #32 on VH1's 100 Greatest Women of Rock N Roll

4. She started her own record label, "Blackheart Records" because no one else would sign them.

5. Her single, "I Love Rock N Roll" went to #1 on the Billboard charts in 1982. 

6. Joan was inducted into the WAMA (Washington Area Music Association) Hall of Fame in 1993.

7. "I Love Rock N Roll"  was declared #177 on the songs of the century according to the Recording Industry of America and the National Endowment for the Arts in 2001.

8. Starred in the broadway show "The Rocky Horror Show" as a character named Columbia.

9. Jett worked as a producer for groups such as Bikini Kill and L7.

10. After her parents divorced she changed her last name to Jett, her mother's maiden name. 

    11. In February 1989 Joan was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group (Joan Jett and the Blackhearts) for the song "I Hate Myself For Loving You".

    12. Joan Jett's first solo album was rejected by 23 record labels in the United States before it was self-published on Blackheart Records
