12 Facts You Didn't Know About The Black Keys

1.) Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney were childhood friends who grew up in Akron, Ohio. They were in different social groups in high school but they still played music together and eventually formed their band after dropping out of college.
2.) The inspiration for the name "The Black Keys" comes from their musician friend Alfred McMoore who suffered from schizophrenia. McMoore called people he didn't like "black keys."
3.) Their 2010 album "Brothers'" was named iTunes album of the year.
4.) They are huge supporters of President Obama. They performed at a benefit concert supporting Obama during his 2008 presidential campaign.
5.) Carney has his own monthly radio show on SiriusXM called "Serious Boredom." Each show has it's own theme based off of an American city.
6.) Before the pair could afford nice cars and drivers, they drove to gigs in a Chrysler van that they nicknamed "the grey ghost."
7.) They are huge Beatles fans and on their album "The Big Come Up" they cover the Beatles' song "She Said, She Said."
8.) Auerbach is Polish-Jewish, his great-uncle and grandmother are Holocaust survivors.
9.) Their song Lonely Boy was featured in a 2012 Victoria's Secret commercial.
10.) They were once offered a large sum of money early in their careers to have one of their songs featured in a Hellman's mayonnaise commercial, but declined the offer out of fear that the commercial would affect their fan base.
11.) Patrick Carney's uncle, Ralph Carney, is a famous saxophonist who has been playing with artists like Tom Waits for years.
12.) After dropping out of college, the pair worked for a landscaping company but were both fired after not edging a lawn correctly.
