12 Things You Didn't Know about Coldplay!


1.  Before the band's drummer, Will Champion, became part of the group, their name was "Starfish". They obviously changed it.

2.  The name "Coldplay" was actually a different band's idea for a name, but they thought it was too depressing. Chris Martin and the rest of the group then took their friends band's discarded name.

3. Since every member in "Coldplay" is a father, they try to see their families as much as possible. They make it a rule that during the tour they get 10 vacation days a month to spend time with their kids.

4. Coldplay has said no to many huge endorsements, including Diet Coke, Gatorade, and Gap. They have, however, allowed Apple to use their song "Viva la Vida" for a commercial.

5. Coldplay makes sure to give 15% of all their band profits to charity.

6. The song "Yellow" was named after the yellow pages.

7. During the 2001 Mylo Xyloto tour, the band gave out wristbands to the audience that changed colors with the music that was playing.

8. The very famous song "Clocks" was a last minute addition to the album "A Rush of Blood to the Head".

9. Chris Martin had to be able to sing "The Scientist" backwards for the music video.

10. The band claims they have a secret fifth band member, Phil Harvey, their manager whom they are very close with.

11.  Before every show Chris Martin draws an = sign with a marker on his hand. This represents the organization called Make Trade Fair. This organization works to find solutions for poverty and injustice.

12. The song "Speed of Sound" is about Martin's feelings towards the birth of his daughter, Apple.
